Animals and the condominium

As a Realtor, I understand that for many animal lovers, the ability to bring their beloved pets with them when moving to a new property is an important consideration. If you are considering buying a property as a co-owner and want to bring your pet with you, it is essential to check the rules and regulations of the property before making a decision.

These rules can be found in documents such as covenants in building regulations and they can include regulations on the size, breed and noise level of pets. These regulations may vary depending on the location of the property, so it is important to familiarize yourself with the specific rules that apply to your situation.

Size and noise regulations are common types of restrictions that may apply to pets. Some communities may have “pet size limits” or “pet weight limits” to ensure that pets can live comfortably in the available space and to prevent damage to property.

Other communities may have “breed bans” or “breed restrictions” due to concerns about aggression or other behavioral issues. Additionally, pets that make excessive or persistent noise may be considered a nuisance and may be subject to noise complaints and citations. These types of bylaws are often put in place to protect the peace and quiet of a residential neighborhood and to prevent conflict between neighbors.

As a real estate broker, it is my job to find the information you need to determine if a particular property will allow your pet. If you own a pet and are considering moving, it is important to research and understand any size or noise regulations that may apply to your pet. This will help ensure that you are in compliance with the law and can avoid any potential problems or conflicts with your neighbours.
