Le Plateau-Mont-Royal
Living on Le Plateau-Mont-Royal, have you thought about it? If you are looking for a vibrant, central and trendy neighborhood, this district is just for you! For its restaurants, cafes, bars and shops, its cultural life, its architecture, its magnificent parks and much more, Le Plateau-Mont-Royal is a destination of choice for tourists and an exceptional living environment for people who decide to take up residence!
The Plateau-Mont-Royal is surrounded by the Parc du Mont-Royal to the west, Sherbrooke Street to the south and the La Petite Patrie and La Petite-Italie neighborhoods to the east and north, making it a strategic location in Montreal. Well served by public transport, it offers the necessary infrastructure to transport yourself without worry in the city without having to use the car.
Over the years, Le Plateau-Mont-Royal has transformed into a young, trendy, warm and multicultural neighborhood. It is a perfect example of the gentrification phenomenon, just like Brooklyn in New York or Le Marais in Paris.
In the four corners of the Plateau, you can discover Montreal’s unique architecture. Many buildings in the Plateau-Mont-Royal sector have old-fashioned masonry, iron stairs and outdoor stairs. In the middle of all this, you will also find comfortable bookstores, cafes, pubs, galleries and gourmet shops.
Creativity and Le Plateau go hand in hand. According to Statistics Canada, Plateau-Mont-Royal has the largest pool of creators in all of Canada. Due to its high population density, many residents of the Plateau-Mont-Royal travel by bike or public transport. It is an ideal neighborhood to have a real sense of life in Montreal. The population is mostly Francophone and has a mixture of young families, students and artists.
Because one of the main streets on Le Plateau is Saint-Laurent Boulevard, it is impossible to talk about the Plateau without mentioning its incredible nightlife. With so many bars, clubs, lounges and cafes within walking distance of each other, Le Plateau is the place where many clubbers meet to have a good time. Nightlife intensifies during the summer, when many tourists flock to Saint-Laurent and Saint-Denis streets.
The very popular Prince-Arthur Street, a pedestrian street with many bars and restaurants, is located on Le Plateau-Mont-Royal. Many restaurants on Prince-Arthur Street have terraces and encourage customers to bring their own wine. Other important streets on the Plateau-Mont-Royal include Saint-Laurent Boulevard, Saint-Denis Street, Mont-Royal Avenue and Sherbrooke Street. One of the best parks in Montreal, Lafontaine Park is also located on Le Plateau.
Saint-Laurent Boulevard is locally called « La Main », because it is considered by many to be the main street of Montreal. Saint-Laurent Boulevard is also the dividing line of Montreal between the English-speaking community of Montreal in the West and its French-speaking community in the East. Some of the important landmarks on this street include Shwartz’s Deli, which is famous for its smoked meat. But what distinguishes Saint-Laurent Boulevard is its trendy bars, clubs and high-end stores.
